McKinney Gundogs trains high-drive dogs to be steady, safe, and dependable in the field and at home.
McKinney Gundogs is a structured gundog program built on a published method. We don't take every dog and hope for the best. We take the right dogs and put them through a clear progression—from foundation to finished work.
Leash pressure, place, recall, crate conditioning, impulse control, and intro to steadiness. This is where chaos becomes calm.
Heel, delivery to hand, whistle sit, intro to marks and blinds, place with distance, and steadiness under mild distraction.
Directional casting, pattern blinds, cold blinds, cheating singles, honoring, water work, terrain transitions, and steadiness under real temptation.
Advanced handling, multiple marks, long blinds, honoring, water blinds, real-world hunting scenarios, and polished delivery.
"The difference in our dog after going through the program was night and day. He came back steady, calm, and reliable — everything we needed for the field."
"Clear system, no guesswork. We always knew exactly where our dog was in the process and what came next. That transparency was huge for us."
"High-drive dog that had no off switch. McKinney Gundogs channeled all of that energy into something we could actually work with."

The System
A four-phase system that takes dogs from foundation to finished work.
Every dog starts here. We establish communication, control, and calmness. Skills include leash pressure, place, recall, crate conditioning, impulse control, and intro to steadiness and environmental neutrality.
This is the bridge between basic obedience and real gundog work. Dogs learn heel with precision, delivery to hand, whistle sit, intro to marks and blinds, place with distance, and steadiness under mild distraction.
Phase 3 is where a dog transitions from obedience into true gundog work. Dogs in this stage learn to think, take direction, and perform reliably under increasing levels of distraction and pressure.
Phase 4 represents the highest standard in the McKinney Gundogs program. Dogs in this stage demonstrate advanced handling, reliable steadiness, and the ability to perform confidently in realistic hunting environments.
"Not every dog enters at Phase 1, and not every dog reaches Phase 4—but every dog follows the same clear system."
Our programs are structured around this four-phase method. Tell us where your dog is, and we'll point you in the right direction.
